Monday (July 13) was Board-of-Trustees Dinner.  Tuesday was an all-day Board-of-Trustees retreat.  Wednesday, the President and the Academic Vice-president wanted to know the history of the MAC program and why there was such a division between the graduate program and undergraduate social science.  We talked for 2 1/2 hours!  Imagine that long with a university president.  We also talked about big C and little c Catholicism and the mission and marketing of the university, the structure of a future graduate organization (rather than each grad director just doing his own thing).  The best part, though, was enrollment.  After groaning the the freshman class was flat (and that wasn't bad in this awful economy), I reminded him that MAC was down from 95 to 65 students.  I told him about the mountain we were trying to climb in order to get it back up to 105 students.  Then I gave him the good news by handing him a list of 127 students' names!  Not all will come, of course, but 115 is certain and maybe 120.  So they were impressed and the capital of the MAC program rose significantly!  Also, as per our "deal" we get Sandy to go from part-time to full-time as a reward for the recruiting success.
